Wildland Urban Interface Programs
Fire Management Concepts offers a variety of services in relation to Hazard Mitigation and Analysis. FMC inc. has extensive experience in actual structural defense during wildland fires, preparation of the area surrounding a structure prior to the arrival of the flaming front and implementation of mechanical fuel reduction activities in wildland urban interface environments.
Services offered include Hazard Mitigation Analysis for communities at risk, individual homeowners and associations or agency land management units. We are capable of utilizing the R.A.M.S (Risk Assessment & Mitigation Strategies) software analysis if desired.
Hazard mitigation analysis will include assessment of areas at risk and recommendations for hazard reduction / mitigation techniques. The analysis can include GIS mapping of fuel hazards in relation to structures and communities, including individual structure location derived from GPS data with associated data such as street address, structure roof type and overall risk ratings.
Fire Management Concepts has over two decades of experience in wildland urban interface firefighting, risk analysis, vegetation / fuels mapping.
Fire Management Concepts has over the last decade conducted numerous training courses for firefighters in structural defense techniques (NWCG S-215 course Wildland Fire Operations in the Urban Interface).
During the last two years of federal service I was part of the national cadre of firefighters that re-developed the S-215 course. I was responsible for extensive re-writes of the Tactics and Firefighter Safety portions of the course and part of the team that instructed the redevelopment test courses for NIFC.
